# Stickies > Stickies is an open format for moving sticky notes between apps by copy and paste, drag and drop, or an agent's tools. Every Stickies document is a valid JSON Canvas file, with a few added fields: a named colour, a state (open, progress or done), an author, and a link back to where the note came from. Version 0.1 is a draft. Key points for agents: - A document is JSON: `{ "stickies": "0.1", "nodes": [...], "edges": [] }`. Each note is a node with `"type": "text"`, an `id`, `text` in Markdown, and `x`, `y`, `width`, `height` (default 240 × 160). - Colour is for display only. Send both `colorName` (yellow, blue, green, pink, purple or grey) and `color` (its hex). Progress goes in `state`, never in colour. An absent `state` means open. - Keep fields you don't understand, especially `ext`, which holds app-specific data. - On the clipboard, a copy carries the document (`application/vnd.stickies+json`; on macOS `live.stickies.json`), plus `text/html` with the document in a `data-stickies` attribute, plus `text/plain`. The HTML version is required: it's the only one every browser passes between sites. - Save a document as `.canvas` to open it in Obsidian. ## Spec - [Stickies 0.1 spec](https://stickies.live/spec.md): the full draft, including fields, colours, state, extensions, clipboard formats, MCP tools and security - [JSON Schema](https://stickies.live/schema/0.1.json): for checking a document - [Example document](https://stickies.live/examples/murmur-cluster.json): three notes and two arrows, copied from Murmur ## React components (shadcn registry) - [Docs](https://stickies.live/docs): a composable sticky note, a full board, and the hooks underneath, with copy and paste in the Stickies format - [Registry index](https://stickies.live/r/registry.json): every item; install one with `npx shadcn@latest add https://stickies.live/r/.json` - [sticky-board](https://stickies.live/r/sticky-board.json): the whole board, with everything it uses ## Agent Skill - [SKILL.md](https://stickies.live/skill/SKILL.md): an Agent Skill for making, checking and handing over Stickies notes - [Format reference](https://stickies.live/skill/references/format.md): the fields and colours on one page - [stickies.mjs](https://stickies.live/skill/scripts/stickies.mjs): a helper script with no dependencies (make, validate, text, html, and copy on macOS) ## Optional - [JSON Canvas 1.0](https://jsoncanvas.org/spec/1.0/): the format Stickies builds on
